The St. Chamassy Writer' Residency is a place for Writers and artists to come and do their work. There is a two-bedroom residence and studio-like cottage.
Anyone.
There is no set length of stay; when you apply, you can let us know how long and when would be ideal for you and we will see if we have availability.
The Residency provides the fully furnished residence and utiltiies; either a two-bedroom gite or a one-bedroom cottage. Linens are provided, and there is a dedicated laundry room with a washer and dryer. All meals and transportation are the responsibility of the visiting writer or artist.
No, yeah, as we just said, no. All meals and transportation are the responsibility of the visiting writer or artist. There is a farmer's market in one of the local towns every day of the week, and a supermarket is 5 km (3 miles) away. The residence kitchens are fully furnished and have some basic pantry items to get you started.
No, ditto. Because the property is in the countrysiude, with no Uber service, it would be foolish to come without a car. There are no services within walking distance, although there are a couple of restaurants within 2 km, and many more within 5 km. Pharmacies, groceries, bakeries, etc., are 5 km.
The property is in the Perigord, a distinctive region of the Dordogne, in the department of Nouvelle Aquitaine, about two hours east of Bordeaux, and five or six hours by car south of Paris. Our small town of St. Chamassy has a church, town hall and post office, but no businesses. The Medieval stone town of Limeuil, which is just 2 km away, has a café that is open year round, and two other cafés and two great restaurants open from April to November, as well as the studios of a glassblower and two artsists. Nearby towns with year-round great restaurants include Le Buisson de Cadouin (5 km), La Bugue (6 km), and Tremolat (10 km). In general, the area is hopping in the summer (for the countryside) and very quiet in the winter. Josephine Baker's castle is 15 minutes away, and the spectacular medieval city of Sarlat-le-Canéda is 20 or 25. Elizabeth of Aquitaine's castle (in Beynac-Cazenac) is in between.
Yes.
